Volkswagen Says Diesel Car Buybacks to Cost Almost $9 Billion – Wall Street Journal

WOLFSBURG, Germany—Volkswagen AG said it expects costs of nearly €8 billion ($9 billion) to buy back tainted diesel-powered cars in the wake of its emissions-cheating scandal.

Those costs are included in the €16.2 billion emissions-related charge against 2015 earnings that Volkswagen announced last week. The company broke down the charges for the first time at a news conference in Wolfsburg on Thursday.
